About us

ApplyChance is a platform to connect professors and departments with the best-suited graduate school applicants. Professors and departments can efficiently and effectively assess applicants' profiles to identify the most promising applicants early in the admission process and provide them with incentives such as scholarships to join their programs or research groups.

Company

ApplyChance was founded in early 2019 and is supported by The University of British Columbia (UBC) through the e@UBC Hatch program. ApplyChance is supported by UBC mentors and Entrepreneurs-in-Residence and has recently been selected for the prestigious Hatch accelerator at e@UBC. Less than 10% of all UBC ventures get into this program phase. Highly qualified graduate school applicants spend more than six months searching for academic positions, struggle to communicate their credentials through emails, and, if at all, often end up in the wrong position at the university. Also, each university professor, on average, spends 125 hours over five months evaluating, selecting, and recruiting graduate students for their paid open positions. They never encounter 95% of the qualified candidates and are never sure they’ve hired the best ones. In Apply Chance, we have made these challenges and problems easy for both students and university professors, and by spending the least amount of time, the best results for both parties will emerge. By accessing the largest pool of high-quality STEM grad applicants, professors attract them and use powerful new tools to identify the best candidates to evaluate the applicant. On the opposite side, applicants can find the best universities for their academic profile, and the ApplyChance platform recommends applicants to the professors in the network. This process results in saving time for professors and applicants.
